Sactown, the Bay Area and back down

What a whirlwind weekend! Friday night Matt took me to dinner at Pizzaiolo for a belated birthday dinner. One word, AMAZING!! We have always walked past it on the way to Dona Tomas and had heard great things. We were so excited about our meal, every last bite of it. We had a four course meal at Pizzaiolo, but started our meal off at Dona Tomas where we had drinks and chips & salsa. Our starter was an Heirloom tomato salad with beans, then we split a rigatoni with braised pork ragu, followed by a pizza margherita, and then finished with the bread pudding with huckleberry sauce. Everything was so good that I was having moments where I swore I was back living in Tuscany.

Saturday I went up to the Vacaville outlets for some (very) early christmas shopping, and a little personal shopping as well, I couldn't help the HUGE sale at the Gap Outlet. Then I had an appointment to get my hair cut. Then was the big reason I went up to Sacramento…to watch Twilight (the movie). Tina and I made dinner…correction, Tina made dinner, I made dessert and we watched Twilight. It was a great girls night in, and the movie was about what I was expecting. Fun to see the book on screen, but some really cheesy parts (like when Bella hops on Edwards back and he runs up the hill…I laughed out loud.)

Sunday we went to brunch at R15, and then I went over and hung out with the Broyles at Scott's Seafood on the river and celebrated an impromptu 6 month birthday party for Barrett. We took the boat back to their house and played a few rounds of Mafia. Then I headed up to Placerville for a wonderful dinner with Matt and Donna (his mom). And I got to meet the newest addition to the family…Lulu. She is an 8-week old Australian Shepherd, and is absolutely adorable, so cudly and mellow (at times). She loves chewing on, licking, and chasing feet :). After I tore myself away from puppy cudling time, I made it back to Oakland around 11:30pm…phew…a long weekend, but a great one. Now onto an equally long week, with lots of fun stuff planned for the non-working hours.

5 o’clock Friday – Kirkland Signature Sauv Blanc

Matt was sweet enough to bring home a new Sauvignon Blanc for me to try…from Costco (one of my favorite places on earth). It's very good, I would certainly buy another bottle…or 5! Thanks Matt!

5 o’clock Friday – Bonterra

Tonight I tried a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc from Bonterra Vineyards. It was a gift from a recent house guest (thanks Dan)! I must say I am super impressed! It is light fruity refreshing an all around fantastic Sauv Blanc. Yay white wine!

5 o’clock Friday – Moose Drool

A wonderful Friday beer was had, Moose Drool Brown Ale. Served super cold is always best by me. A great dark-but-not-too-dark beer. Plus it's a great name. Try it out you won't be disappointed.

5 o’clock Friday – Montes, Sauvignon Blanc

I think I have a new favorite wine. Maybe it was because I had been working on my midterm for 2+ hours. Maybe it was because by the time Friday evening rolls around I start craving my jammies and a nice glass of wine to relax, maybe. This is still a great wine. It was light, fruity, crisp, awesome! I have also realized after a few weeks of attempting to describe wine and/or beer that my vocabulary around describing flavors is very limited. I just know what I like and I like this. This was a Costco purchase on special sale for around $9 (this is relayed from Matt because he was the sweetheart who bought it for me). Great wine under $9? Sign me up for more!!

5 o’clock Friday – Rodney Strong Sauv Blanc

Tonight we took a picnic dinner up to the Cal Shakes outdoor theater to see the play Private Lives, starring one of my good friends Sarah Nealis. It was a wonderful performance very funny, great costumes and sets and as always a beautiful surrounding.

The wine we tried tonight was a Rodney Strong Sauvignon Blanc (my favorite type of white wine). It was wonderful! Light, refreshing, fruity, and a screw cap which makes transportation a breeze, and no need to worry about a corkscrew. I will also put in a plug for the BYO bag. It is an insulated carrying case and they come in all sorts of colors and sizes. I found mine at TJ Maxx (I think) and it was an un-regrettable purchase.

5 o’clock Friday – Racer 5

Friday night was spent up in Mount Shasta City with Joy, Amy, Jason & Barrett. We left Sacramento early afternoon and were in the beautiful town just in time for dinner. Jason had been making spicy crock pot pork, SO GOOD! (We have plans to re-create out own version soon :). We turned the pork into burritos and washed them down with Corona and Racer 5. On the right day I enjoy a cold beer as much if not more than a cold glass of white wine, this was one of those days. This beer is one of our fave! It is an IPA and has a pretty strong flavor (to me at least). I would for sure recommend it if you haven't tried it and like a good IPA.

Thank you to Amy & Jason for being amazing hosts!
