Hi readers…remember me? It's Jojo…however I now feel as though my blog has been improperly labeled as my "yearofjojo" has turned into more like "every-few-weeks-of-jojo". I feel like I keep apologizing for not keeping up with my posts on this personal blog and again I am sorry. I think I have lost my motivation to blog about my life and have instead found a new interest in blogging about my hobby and side "business"…knitting. I know I have talked a little about some of my projects over the past year and to check off one of the big items on my list of New Year's resolutions…I am starting up my Etsy.com shop Nellebean Knitting (pronounced like Jelly Bean). And to go along with the Etsy store, I have decided to start up a blog dedicated only to my knitting projects, although I might throw some other crafty stuff in just for kicks. Nellebeanknits.wordpress.com. I have spent a lot of time this weekend loading in some posts on the new blog with pictures of my various projects from last year and I am so excited to add to it as the year progresses. I think I already have 20 custom orders to fulfill at some point this year and I'm always looking for more so if you are in the market for a handmade beanie, please let me know.
I am also torn because my "year of jojo" ends on my 1/2 birthday which is March 26. So what happens then? I'm debating about renewing my blog with Typepad, just because I'm not sure I want to pay for another year. But if I don't then does all my work this past year just disappear? I don't want that to happen. I know there is a way for me to export my posts and I will do some research on how to do that and maybe transfer my posts to a blogspot or wordpress blog that is free of charge. I already have secured the "domain" of yearofjojo at each of the above mentioned blog sites so maybe it's just a matter of figuring out how the heck to get my posts to a new blog (any advice??). I guess I have a few more weeks to figure it out. Just wanted to take the time to thank those of you who have stuck with me through my first yearofjojo, stay tuned to see what the future has in store for yearofjojo.me :).
Here is a picture from Valentine's day weekend. Matt and I went up to Tahoe and went showshoeing for the first time and had such a blast. Since my knees have decided about 12 years ago that they don't like me very much skiing/snowboarding is pretty much non-existent in my vocabulary. But I do love the snow so figured that this was a natural way to enjoy being in the snow and not in pain. We are heading up to Tahoe again this coming weekend and will also be doing some snowshoeing, woo hoo!
I like the change in years. It brings about a kick start for change, for new beginnings, and for pretty new calendars :). I haven't thought much about what I will resolve to do differently in 2010 but now that I try to think about what I want to happen in this new year a few things come to mind…
- Lose weight/get in better shape (…always on my list)
- Drink more water
- Take my vitamins
- Take another knitting class (which leads into the next one)
- Launch my Etsy Shop (nellebean.etsy.com…but first I need to keep some hats in stock to upload to the site)
- Save more money/manage my budget
- Be more patient…be happy with me.
What items are on your list?
I know it's only Thursday but I'm already getting excited for the weekend. We are heading back up to Sacramento, well to Lincoln actually, for a weekend with my girls! We are doing a JETA* craft day on Saturday. It'll be a Christmas card making/addressing, hat/scarf knitting, scrap-booking, chick-flick watching, baby holding, girlie day! Then we'll watch football (Cal vs. Washington…don't blow it bears!!). I look forward to these days so much and am also looking forward to sitting around all day in my comfy (newly acquired, on sale at Nordy's Rack) Juicy velour pants drinking apple cider and hanging out with my girls!
*JETA=the acronym of our group of friends from high school (yes we made up the name in high school…and it stuck). Joanna, Erika, Tina, Allie! 🙂
I'm back from France :). Arrived home Wednesday night, Matt picked me up at the airport and I've been trying to adjust back to California time, and I think I finally have gotten over my jet lag. We had a great trip. A wonderful group of people, weather was cold but beautiful most days. I got some good knitting done while I was away too. For anyone who wants to order any handmade Christmas gifts, let me know and I'd be happy to work with you. Some pictures from the trip are below here.
Yesterday was the last Cal football home game and it ended up being an awesome win for the Bears!! Wasn't so sure there for a while but they dug deep and pulled out a victory, thank goodness! We had a great tailgate ahead of time on Faculty glade. Matt bought an EZ Grill…actually 30 (it's a long story), we brought one and BBQ'd Top Dogs and had great snacks and even better company.
Today is starting out to be a wonderfully lazy Sunday. I just watched Twilight (again) and am preparing for the New Moon premiere on Friday. I bought my ticket on Fandango and am going to take the train up to Sacramento and see it with my 2 best girl friends…make a night of it. Can't wait!! Today Matt said I'm like a 14 year old girl with my obsession with this book series, and now the movies…can't say I disagree with him. I am going to head over to Paper Source here in a bit for their Make & Take event. I'll get to learn how to make some neat Christmas decorations, wrapping hints etc…looking forward to it!
So I have been doing a bit of knitting lately. It is my favorite activity to do while watching TV on the DVR and is also my favorite baby shower gift. I have made a watermelon, pumpkin and a tomato. As well as a bunch of striped ones. I have also created a Nellebean Etsy page. With only one hat up now, but plans to add more as they are finished.
So my posts have been somewhat sporadic the past few weeks. But I do have my new camera now and am trying to figure out all the settings. Here are a few photos that I have taken. My birthday was last weekend, September 26…I turned 29 (woo hoo!). We were up at the Lair for the 60th ex-staff reunion. It was a great place to celebrate my birthday. We had great weather and I was able to catch up with a bunch of old friends. Matt also got me a wonderful birthday present, my first diamond anything :). A pair of diamond stud earrings. I am a happy girl. If anyone is looking for wonderful jewelry check out Pave in Berkeley, ask for Marlene :).
Great news, Friday my brother moved down to the Bay Area from Sacramento. We went down to Mountain View on Friday night and helped un-pack and went to dinner. It was a great Friday night. Saturday was the Cal vs. USC football game, darn those bears. We blew it again, there goes the season. Matt was feeling spontaneous and bought me a bear hat…pictures above. Sunday was spent around the house, I started to come down with a cold so we were just laying low, cleaning and getting ready for the week. By the time Monday rolled around, my cold was getting a bit worse so I stayed home and also today as I'm feeling much worse…typical cold though. Stuffy nose, sore throat, achy…love flu season :(. I'm resting up and will hopefully start feeling better soon.
What a great weekend! Saturday was hotter than…well you know. If we lived in a place where air conditioning was a standard household amenity then it probably wouldn't be that bad but when it gets over 90 degrees here in Oakland it's pretty dang hot. Luckily we were in an air conditioned car all day driving down to the San Jose/South Bay Area apartment hunting with my brother who is moving down here (YAY!!). We also made a necessary stop at 7-Eleven for slurpees…mmm slurpees! And also swung by the house that Pat and I grew up in from 1980-1989 (I remember telling my friends that we were moving because we didn't like earthquakes, we coincidentally moved 2 months after the "Great Quake" of 1989).
Sunday I had a baby shower in the morning-early afternoon which was so much fun! Erin left with a ton of great baby stuff and we were able to nosh on a burrito bar and an adorable hand made cake. I was also very proud of my "baby bushel":
*Sorry your head got cut off Erin!!
After the baby shower Matt and I went on a matinee date to see the (most amazing) movie 500 Days of Summer. YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE! It was so touching, laugh out loud, almost kinda cried. They claim that it isn't a love story, which it isn't…but it also is in a way. Intrigued? Go see it!!
